Sociale Corruptie: an interesting article by Dominic van den Boogerd, for Metropolis M, dating back to 2005 (sorry, the article is mostly Dutch)!
‘In a complex way, art has always interacted with its social environment. Its communicative nature makes it intrinsically social. So one might as well deal with it in those terms. If art contributes to, among other things, the way we view the world and shape social relations, then it does matter whose image of the world it promotes and whose interests it serves.’
Hans Haacke, 1981
Dutch artists De Rijke / De Rooij tell about urgency and beauty, combining aesthetics and socio-political engagement in their work. The article was published after their fiction film ‘Mandarin Ducks‘ premiered in 2005 at the 51th Venice Biennale.
